THE VINEYARD

Stretching along the right bank of the river Rhône in the department of Pyrénées Orientales is one of the oldest but also one of the largest vineyards, with an area of almost 300 000 hectares (750,000 acres).
Since the dawn of time in Languedoc-Roussillon, the art of wine growing has evolved through the ages, offering today fruity or full-bodied sophisticated wines. Much more than just a local activity, wine is a passion in Languedoc-Roussillon, and a tradition forming an integral part of the history of this region.
You may well be familiar with some of the labels.
Corbières, St Chinian, Muscat du Minervois, Faugères, Muscat de Rivesaltes and Fitou to name but a few.
You will be able to appreciate all the subtleties by visiting one of the many winegrower’s tourist workshops or by visiting the website of the
Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Tourism Committee .
FRENCH CATALONIA
Annexed by France in 1659, French Catalonia has maintained a dual culture by virtue of its history.
Centuries of wars which were raged to claim ownership of this territory and its eventful past have enriched the culture of this region. This can be seen in the works and objects of art, the many buildings and the protected heritage. Less than 30 mins from Barcarès and La Croix du Sud campsite, the Catalan region of Perpignan offers a wonderful opportunity to sample its history and heritage.
